Merlin 2x11

* This episode suffers greatly from the shows recurring problem that Uther is a totally crappy king, yet everyone that opposes him must be stopped at any cost.
* It also suffers from that other recurring problem: Not Enough Gwen. (And what is it with me that only start to feel the Gwen/Morgana-vibes when they're breaking up?)
*Apart from this, it was a eerie, exiting, beautifully filmed episode that would have had an even greater impact if Morgana had been written consistently this season. Her lashing out at Uther especially - in series one that seemed to happen on a bi-weekly basis, but this series we haven't seen it since...episode four, I think (and there hasn't been much Uther&Morgana interaction at all lately). It didn't feel out of place here, but it wasn't as powerful as it could have been.
*Nice to see that someone learns from experience: Morgana is better at breaking people out of prison this season. Think Tom was more worthy of saving than Alvarr, though - even if the latter came across as ruthless and manipulative but with a decent/good cause rather than eeeevil.
*I'm a bit torn about the recurring appearances of Mordred. On one hand, he's got some awesome survival skills and is adorable together with Morgana, on the other hand he's supposed to be the end of the story of King Arthur's reign, and we havn't even gotten to the beginning of that yet. (Of the other recurring characters from über-canon that we've seen, I think that Nimue was a great idea that was executed poorly, Morgause is another great idea that I still hope they won't mess up, and Lancelot, much as I love him, was introduced a bit to early but I have a faint hope that they will let the iconic moments of his affair with Guinevere play out in a "safe" way on the show, to reduce the risk of Bad Stuff happening in the post-show future.)
*He's crazy and misogynic, but I LOVE THE DRAGON and will cry bitter tears when he flies away/is killed by Scully's ex from Bleak House in the finale. Still, it's probably a good thing if they change the formula a bit for series three. Hey, maybe Merlin could start opposing Uther? Just a thought.
