Just came back from watching Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I enjoyed it, though I think it works better as a series of set-pieces than as an actual movie - I wouldn't recommend it to non-fans.
* Good-to-decent acting from all the no-longer-exactly-kids. Liked Grint best this time - the Von-Von/Lav-Lav relationship was hilarious.
* Jim Broadbent is so not my Slughorn, and it took me a while to warm up to him, but he's Jim Broadbent, so I did.
* Liked the way they handled Harry/Ginny-stuff, especially that they cut the break-up.
* Ginny/Dean: went awfully fast from "snogging at The Three Broomsticks" to "ZOMG Ginny is sad because they've quarreled!".
* I liked Narcissa, weird hair and all, though I wish her scene could have been longer.
* This was the first time ever (in movie-verse, book-verse or fic-verse) that I found Draco interesting. Good acting by Felton! And I wonder if Dumbledore was thinking of Tom, himself or Gellert when he told Draco "I once knew a boy who made all the wrong choices".
* There are a lot of things from the books that I would have liked to have seen (the other minister, Moaning Myrtle, Gaunt-family flashbacks to name a few), but at least I got Hagrid's and Slughorn's post-funeral singing, so maybe my life really is complete now.
* Though there wasn't enough Hagrid.
* I did like that they established that Remus and Tonks are in a relationship (and I really liked Tonks outfit). They can go in a lot of directions with that in the next movies - including cutting the entire storyline - but given how they stressed that Remus wasn't really in the most stable mood, I think they deliberately made some groundwork for the canonical DH-plot.
* Don't get why they kept Greyback when he didn't actually do anything.
* Don't get why Wormtail had a five-second non-speaking cameo, either.
* Do get why Romilda Vane had no lines, but I wished there had been more Romilda - I like her in a weird way.
* For once I didn't get annoyed by the fog - it's supposed to be the Year of Breeding Dementors, after all.
* Did anyone else start to whisper "By Grabthars Hammer, you will be avenged!" when Snape was kneeling beside Bleeding Draco?
