Harry Potter re-read: Goblet of Fire

trudeLiked it more than the first/last time. In other words, it can't cure insomnia, but it works wonders when you have an annoying cold and needs cheering up. Also, I want to contiue with OotP Right Now.
* The early chapters are a bit annoying, both plot-wise and because of the many, many occasions where "the story so far" is explained to us.
* I like the increasing darkness. And the inappropriate humor (esp. drunk Winky and that moronic wizard/witch who will send a curse to Hermione as soon as he/she finds a larger envelope).
* I also really enjoy Fleur this time, even if she is someone I might have trouble connecting with in real life.
* Everyone who was completely shocked by the "revelation" that Harry finds girls attractive in HPB need to re-read everything about Cho in the first half of this book. (OK, I can also find some support for Harry/Ron here, but...)
* Still love Hagrid, but he's actually a worse teacher here than he was in PoA, right?
* I find Dumbledore to be much more charming than I remebered. It's hard to reconcile his behaviour in the last chapters with distant!Dumbledore in OotP, though.
* Whatever valid an less valid critizism there might be against Hermiones make-over at the Yule Ball, I love that she afterwards tells Harry that she just can't bother with hair-charms or whaterver it was.
* I don't particularly like Ludo Bagman as a person (and it won't bother me if we never hear from him again) but as a piece of local color he's amusing.
* I really like Sirius, and the bond between him and Harry. (Don't want to read OotP anymore.)
* Is it just me, or does Barty Crouch Jr compete with Bellatrix for the title of Most Annoying Death Eater Ever? (BTW, Snape and Wormtail shoud dump Voldie and form their own evil society. They are much to cool for those drama queens. And I'm not a fan of either of them.)
* The Crouches beats the Gaunts in the "Most fucked-up pureblood family", which is kind of scary.
I've read an ridiculous amount of HP-shipper fic the past two weeks, mainly of the non-canonical variety. Eventually, I ended up among the weird smut. Strangely (or maybe not), it's easier for me to buy that Snape could bear and give birth to a child, than that he would be a good parent.
