Article about the BBC's poll about the 100 best-loved books

The list )

39 out of 100.

Comments:
* Out of the 39 I've read, only Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, Brideshead Revisited, Emma, Gabriel Garcia Marquez books, The Hobbit, Winnie-the-Pooh, Wuthering Heights and possibly Little Women would make my personal top 100. The Catcher In The Rye, Crime and Punishment, Jane Eyre, Midnight's Children and a few more are runner-ups. Gone With the Wind, The Secret History and The Thorn Birds are in a "complicated" category of their own.
* Moments of irrational snobbishness: While I can understand that others have strong feelings for and loving memories of books I dont care about (The Godfather, Discworld, the Harry Potter Books to name a few), I just don't get how Kane and Abel made the list. Half-decent way to kill a few hours? Yes. A book to love? Apparently, but I don't get why. Also: I've never read Magician, but the one book of Raymond E. Feist that I have read; Shadow of a Dark Queen, is one of the few books that I a. stopped reading when it was less than 100 pages left and b. thrown in the trash-can.
* Who is Jacqueline Wilson?
